Rules and procedures

There are clear rules and procedures in place to ensure the security of the electricity supply. These provide clarity on the tasks and responsibilities of all the parties involved in the transmission of electricity.

Why are we regulated?

The role of rules and procedures

They define each party’s role, ensure effective communication between all parties, provide transparent tariffs and enable the electricity market to operate freely. In deciding the rules and procedures, TenneT worked with the regional grid operators and other parties involved in transporting electricity.

The rules are laid down in codes such as the Grid Code, the System Code and the Metering code. The tariff structure is set out in the Tariff Code.

Should one or more parties not adhere to the agreements, or if a key grid management application is temporarily unavailable, emergency procedures can be implemented.
